7 Tips for Staying in a Hostel

Are you staying in a Hostel on your next adventure???

Well here are some of my best tips for your next trip!

1. Bring earplugs - people come and go at all hours of the night. To optimize sleep, get some earplugs. I just used the cheap foam ones you can buy at Target

2. Bring a money purse or belt bag - this one is super important. Having a small bag to keep around yourself while sleeping is safety 101! Put your passport and wallet in the money purse and sleep soundly knowing everything is on your person. Also there are usually phone chargers right next to your head in the bunks, so dont worry about leaving your phone charging in your room.

3. White Noise - this is my favorite tip of them all. While your phone is charging next to your head, put on a white noise app, this helps create a more comforting environment so you can get better sleep!

4. Locks - bring a lock. Most hostels will charge you to purchase a lock. And depending on your room situation and the hostel lockers can be outside your room.

5. Microfiber towel - Hostels will also charge you for towels so having a microfiber towel is a great way to pack a towel that is light and drys fast.

6. Essential oils - If you have sensory problems this is a must, especially if you're using a communal bathroom.

7. Shower shoes - enough said, you need these. Either buy a cheap pair where you are staying or bring some waterproof sandals like TEVAs that are multipurpose!

It's hard to tell on some hostel websites what they include and what they don’t but in my experience they are looking to charge you extra for little things here and there, so when in doubt pack the lock and towel.

Hostels are a great way to travel, meet people, and have fun! Some things to remember is that each hostel has a different vibe, know if you're at a party hostel before you book. Know what you're getting yourself into! There are plenty of websites that will tell you the vibe.

If you are not a man, make sure you research thoroughly that your hostel has female only rooms! This is always a huge requirement for me when I'm booking a hostel.

Also I love a good hostel if you're traveling with yourself or with just one other person but sometimes splitting an Airbnb is cheaper with groups of four or more! Plus you don’t have to use a communal bathroom.

Lastly, know that you are saving tons of money staying in a hostel and you're creating an unforgettable experience!
