What to do in Stockholm, Sweden
So far, Stockholm is one of my favorite cities in Europe!
Why, you might ask???? Well, Stockholm is rich with art and history and is drop-dead gorgeous.
Some things to note: Stockholm is a wee bit expensive, but even if you are on a budget, it's still doable and worth it.
I am still dreaming of all the cardamom buns I ate!!
* Note: I will list everywhere I walked at the end of the article and the sites I saw *
Accommodations:
So, I went with one of my friends, and we ended up splitting a hotel I booked through Expedia. During my research, booking a hotel ended up being cheaper than a hostel (which is sometimes the case in Europe). A bonus was that our hotel had a complimentary breakfast, which is always a money-saving win!
We stayed at the Old Town Stay Hotel, and I am giving the name because this was such a perfect place to stay; it was situated right in Gamla Stan, which is a charming and historical part of the city! The hotel was great and central to everything we wanted to visit.
What we splurged on (AKA what we spent money on):
By splurging, I mean spending money. We went to one Museum, Fotografiska, and I highly recommend it if you love art. This museum blew my mind, and it had a super nice place to grab Fika (a Swedish tradition of coffee and sweets) with a drop-dead gorgeous view.
I did not go, but I have also heard the Nordic Museum is great.
What we did:
My friend and I averaged 18 miles of walking daily when we were in Stockholm. We just walked everywhere we could and walked into every museum and church that would let us in for free! This was a great way to get a feel for Stockholm; we would walk until we wanted coffee and a pastry and then walk some more. Also, my friend and I spent much time relaxing and tanning around the Djurgårdsbrunnsviken. Lastly, we would spend nights getting a drink with a view or picnicking by the water.
One place you must go:
Djurgarden is a must! We spent the whole day there, walking the many trails through the woods. It's a magical place, and walking through nature was an excellent way to get into Swedish nature without leaving the city.
Finally, we are on the list of everything we saw!
